Respect is Required... Married Folks yall better tap in!!!

Updated: Apr 28, 2022

This week we explore something that we just don't talk about enough in black homes. Respect to/for our husbands. Now don't shoot the messenger! I grew up in a single-parent home and saw my mom do it all by herself. My dad was in prison my entire childhood so I did not see this modeled firsthand BUT it was still necessary for me to learn in order to have a marriage that we no longer invite strife and sin into our home and union.

RESPECT- When I was a teen I would hear my mom reference how my grandmother respected her husband. My grandmother would always ensure he wasn't disturbed as he worked two jobs. She would cancel her church events to ensure she spent time with him when his schedule allowed. She wholeheartedly followed his advice and respected his love for her and her children. But hearing bout something in passing and seeing it are TWO VERY DIFFERENT things! I know there are systemic things in place- labor wars, access to work and education disparities, racism, pipeline to prison, etc- but if we don't get RESPECT down, our daughters will repeat the same cycle we did and have to learn to respect their spouses as they go and take it from me, learning on the fly is HARD!

But take heart! We don't have to make up the lesson from scratch. God left us His Word to help guide us and equip us to be women who change the lives of future generations by simply reading and knowing His word. How to respect and the consequences for not respecting our husbands are already in the BIBLE. Check out this week's video and let me know what resonates with you or what scares you about God's command to respect our husbands. And if you are courting and entertaining prospects, I can guarantee when you become a wife, respect will still be required. Happy Friday! I love you. God loves you more!
