Hearing but not Heeding

In Ezekiel Chapter 33, God is speaking to Ezekiel and says, "My people come to you as they usually do and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice..." God's people were a captive audience, literally. They were now in captivity after decades of Ezekiel prophesying and instructing them to turn away their evil ways and desires. Now they were sitting and hearing God's word but were not heeding. They were talking about turning from their evil ways but they never actually did.

We too sit at every conference, revival, worship service or online recording and hear what says the Lord but we must learn from the Israelites and make sure that we are applying the Word to our lives.

We must believe there is life in God's word. We must know His word and retain it. And then we must do it. James tells us that if we only hear the word we deceive ourselves. We deceive ourselves from experiencing the transformative power of God's living holy word. We deceive ourselves into thinking God is pleased with lip service. Let's WORK THE WORD!

Scriptures:

Ezekiel 33:30- My people come to you as they usually do and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak love but their hearts are greedy for unjust gains.

James 1:22- Do not listen to the words and deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
