Yikes! That's all I have right now. "YIKES" is the total sum of my mental capacity and vocabulary I have to articulate the past several weeks of 2020. COVID-19 has disrupted our entire world in ways we never even imagined. Every aspect of the human existence has been disrupted, shifted, and modified. I started this year planning my daughter's transition from high school to college and now everything we've planned (and paid for) has changed. No prom, graduation, senior class pictures, senior skip day, cap and gown- all of it disrupted. And yet we are still planning for her to be off to college in the Fall. The events we thought would take place for her transition are indeed absent but the need to transition still remains. This got me to thinking about how we can remain at peace even during times of transition.
When Abraham was called from his father’s homeland by God to go to a place God would show him. And when Moses prepared Joshua to take the Israelite’s into the Promised Land without him. And when David transitioned the throne to Solomon. These were HUGE transitions that required complete faith in God. Just like the seasons transition at their proper time so must each of us. We will more than likely find ourselves needing to transition from our parent’s home into our own, from high school to college, college to a career, employer to a different employer, caregiver to the one needing care, and from life to death.
But us believers in Christ can hold fast to God’s unchanging promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. God’s covenant with us is everlasting and He declares that He is the only one who can swear by Himself that He will see the good work He started in us through to completion. No matter what this time of transition requires of us or takes away from us, God is still with us. And His peace and joy are not like the kind the world gives and takes away- His peace and joy are yours to keep.
If this time of change has impacted your finances, senior year plans, social connections, job title, or anything else, I also hope it has positively impacted your relationship with God. I pray your transitions draw you closer to Him so that you can rest in His love for you. Scripture reminds us how much more mindful God is of us. So much so that He cares for us and gave His Son to reconnect us to Him. In this time of transition, readjust your crown and stand on His word. His good plans for you have NOT changed. He maybe just needs your plans to line up with His.
I love you but God loves you more!
