“I forgive you but I don’t fool with you!” Have you caught yourself telling someone this before? We all need and want forgiveness but it’s yet so hard to fully give it to others.
Oftentimes it’s hard to give to others what you haven’t given or accepted for yourself. Forgiveness is no different. Until you accept that while you were enemies with Christ, He still called you His friend, and laid down His life for yours, you will struggle to forgive. Most times we are looking for the perfect equation to balance out before you can forgive a person. “He did this and then he turned around and did this. So that’s two times. And a person actions speak louder than words. So I’m gone show them better than I can tell them...“ We think forgiveness has to make sense or add up.
But if we simply use Christ as the example, we see that He alone is the difference maker. It doesn't make sense that a righteous and holy God would call Himself friends with us, a hard head, ungrateful, selfish, mean, and the list goes on, people. But He did. Most people today who are high up in corporations or networks will distance themselves from anyone who could tarnish their fame/clout or notoriety. But not God. He still called us friends and forgave us while we were enemies to Him.
Accept that God loves you and forgives you in spite of yourself. Then and only then can you turnaround and do the same for others. Then you'll be able to call them friend while they are still thinking they are your enemies.
